The Audenshaw Sharks were well represented at the North West Regional Championships over the weekend of April 27th to 29th with five of the squad taking part. The very successful Year 10 boys who have brought repeated success to the Sharks during their years in the school were again to the fore with Wunnai Tam, Alex Campbell, Jolan Bennett and Kian Tevlin all in action. Rory Lees of year 11 joined his school teammates in being selected for the flagship event. Kian Tevlin, in his Chamionship debut, completed the 200 freestyle in a time of 2.17.75, and came 13th overall in the 200 backstroke, going a long course personal best in 2.32.26. Kian also went in the 4x100 medley swimming the freestyle leg for his team. Jolan Bennett swam in five races over the weekend as a whole, claiming two silver medals in the process in both the 200 fly and 200 backstroke, which should see him through to the English and British Championships later in the year. Fellow Shark, Alex Campbell swam in eight events as well as the 14-16 medley relay. Campbell's time of 1.01.37 was a six second PB and his 2.17.76 in the 200 free took a further two seconds off his personal best in this race. A 4.51.40 followed in the 400m freestyle, a massive 33 second PB and his 29.83 in the 50m backstroke saw the City of Manchester ace take the bronze medal. All in all it has been another great year for the Audenshaw swimmers whose victories in 2017/18 have included wins over Bolton School, Bradford Grammar and Leeds Grammar as well as reaching the ESSA National Relay Finals for the second time in three years back in November. The Sharks will be keen to look out for their next stream of talent next week as we host the Audenshaw School Primary Swimming Gala on Thursday May 13th at 3pm.
