The U16 rugby team have provedU16 to be the flagship team so far in 2016

The U16 rugby team have proved themselves to be the school's flagship team so far in 2016/17 winning all but one of their opening six games. The year eleven boys are reaping the benefits of an extensive three and a half month pre-season and can already count Crossley Heath, Bolton School, Liverpool College and Stockport Grammar amonst those who they have defeated in the current campaign. The progress of Coach Ward and his players has attracted the attention of Lancashire scouts who have recruited three quarter Oliver Richardson and scrum half, Daniel Martin to the county squad.

Star performers have included back rowers, Raymond Pond, Lewis Broadhurst and Dan Cawley along with the returning Zak Gregory who has been incredible in the second row. Gregory, Richardson, Pond, Marcus Wheatley and Tom Hughes have already been rewarded with 1st XV appearances and there are sure to be plenty more in the coming months.

The boys head to Hutton Grammar on Wednesday with high hopes of success in the Lancashire Cup in what is proving to be a great year for the team.
