The 1st XV face Lymm High School in the second round of the NATWEST National Vase Competition on Wednesday September 20th at 2.45pm. The school's senior team enjoyed a four month pre-season training campaign that started back in May and have started the season brilliantly with excellent performances against both Stonyhurst College (Pre Season Game) and Bolton (W 22-7) in the opening weeks of the season. The squad has responded well to significant adversity after losing over 20 players from the very successful U16 team of 2016/17 with just five progressing through to year 12. Despite this, the early signs are promising for this small yet talented squad who were hit with further bad news last week with a serious injury to skipper, James Sharples who will miss the next four weeks at least. The 1st XV advanced to round two following the failure of Sale Grammar School to fulfil their first round match with Audenshaw with a late withdrawal less than an hour before the kick off. The match promises to be a stern test for the red and whites against a side whose club team (Lymm RFC) advanced to the national U17 final last year. It will take a herculean effort from the Audenshaw boys against a side who will be most people's favourites to win the National Vase outright after unexpectedly entering this tier of the competition but that effort can always be guaranteed from this Audenshaw side.
