The U16s rugby team made a fantastic start to their Lancashire Cup campaign by beating Kirkham Grammar School in round one. Kirkham took the lead, scoring twice in the opening stages of the game as the red and whites from Audenshaw were up against it. Lewie O'Reilly and Lewie Morrison took a grip of the game and got the boys on the front foot with some barnstorming runs; a well worked move saw Brandon Brunning score in the corner. The U16s began to play freely; Kirkham were struggling to deal with Will Winbow and Pele Tolan-Smith, the latter went on to score two tries. In the second half Brandon Brunning boasted his pace to score two more tries while Reece Dunning was providing fast ball to Amjad and Peters who kept Audenshaw constantly on the front foot. Josh Birch was awarded man of the match for his relentless pursuit of tackles and carries in the forward pack. Final score Audenshaw 38-24 Kirkham Grammar School. The U16s will face St. Edwards College in the next round.
