The 1st XV enjoyed an impressive 38-22 victory over Cheshire's Fallibroome Academy on Wednesday afternoon to reach the next round of the NATWEST National Vase. Audenshaw entered the game in confident mood after their Lancashire Cup victory over St Mary's last week and a brilliant performance against Altrincham Grammar School on Saturday and despite conceding the first try, responded in resolute fashion to level through half back, Dan Johnson. The in form Dan Martin added the extras to kick start Audenshaw's afternoon. It was a matter of just minutes until the home side took the lead with a surge from try machine, Luke Nero, making it 12-7. Martin's conversion doubled the advantage and it was only moments before Nero raced in again for another converted score, increasing the lead to 21-7. Dan Martin was next over for a deserved score, the Lancashire U17 scrum half playing some phenomenal rugby once again and at this stage it seemed Audenshaw were cruising for a big score. A period of resurgence from the visitors, coupled with periods of ill discipline from the red and whites saw the deficit reduced by two away scores but further scores from Marcus Wheatley off a bar assist from Nero and another by the powerhouse Jack Lowndes saw Audenshaw home with a final score of 38-22. The man of the match accolade was claimed for a fourth time this season by the warrior that is Dale Chadderton whose unrivalled displays of courage and toughness see him as one of the top back rowers on the circuit. Special mentions also go to Nero, Lowndes, Toby Shaw and Dan Martin plus U16 rising stars, Jenson Peters, Josh Birch and Sufyan Amjad who continue their superb development with the Senior team.
