On Wednesday 17th January a group of year 10 students visited the University of Manchester for a 'Student Experience Day'. They were given a lecture on courses on offer at universities before going on a guided tour of the campus during which they were able to spend time chatting to current students. In the afternoon session the university ran two STEM based workshops to give the students a chance to extend their knowledge of GCSE topics into new areas. The boys looked at casts of dinosaur fossils and worked out the adaptations of each dinosaurs which links in well with the GCSE Biology specification. They also learned about how the brain remembers things which links to our nervous system topic. A third anthropology workshop was also available to the boys to help them appreciate the diversity of courses available in higher education. "We had a fantastic day at the university and the workshops were really good fun and gave our students a good idea of the diverse range of courses available to them at university." said Mrs Taylor, who accompanied the boys.
